About us

In the very heart of the Salamanca countryside and surrounded by the province’s largest swathes of pastureland stands the ancient, noble and loyal city once known as Miróbriga. The three columns that the visitor sees upon entering what is now known as Ciudad Rodrigo represent those three hallmarks that define our city: ancestral, historic and bursting with life on all sides. Ciudad Rodrigo is one of the foremost historical and cultural referents in the province of Salamanca, not only because of its proximity to the capital itself, but also due to its inherent contact with Portugal, which has seen it bathed in history, and to its self-sufficiency by defining itself over the years as a paradigm of hard work, tradition and modernity, of past and present as it battles for its future. Back in 1944 it was declared a Historical-Artistic Site and, as one of the slogans promoting it affirms, in Ciudad Rodrigo the stones can talk.

When referring to Ciudad Rodrigo one cannot help but speak of the countryside and its fighting bulls, as this area is home to some of Spain’s leading cattle ranches. Here, breeders are country people, from when they rise in the morning until they retire for the night, in the freezing cold of winter and in the torrid heat of summer, for the fighting bull is their lord and master and the focal point of what has always been more than a way of earning a living, becoming a veritable way of life. The landscape’s main features are precisely the bulls and the rolling pastureland, known as the dehesa, an inseparable combination that merges to make this land of ours a unique corner of Spain. Bulls are bred in the countryside and the countryside is the cornerstone of our culture. Numerous screening processes are held in our fields, tests of bravery in search of the raw material required for bringing glory to the bullfight. Bravery is the password that makes the fighting bull one of the world’s most unique species.

One of the corners of the old Miróbriga witnessed the opening of the Conde Rodrigo Hotels, two of the places with the longest pedigree in the whole of the province and which from the very first have been characterised by their dedication to tourism. They have also been renowned for looking upon their guests as friends whilst catering for their every need. They attend to visitors from other parts as if they were their own kith and kin as they strive to develop the hotel business with fresh and modern ideas in their approaches, albeit never forgetting that their roots lie deep in this hallowed land, with all that entails. Interwoven within this outlook maintained by the Conde Rodrigo Hotels is the world of the fighting bull as a true reflection of their soul. The Conde Rodrigo II especially is one of the places most steeped in bullfighting tradition in the whole of the autonomous community. Since it first opened it has fought to promote bullfighting, from its decoration through to the activities it organises. Each corner, every wall and all the rooms are filled with the memories the fiesta of bullfighting has regaled us with and which the hotel's management wishes to cherish so that they do not fade over the course of time. The Conde Rodrigo Hotels have hosted as many as thirteen editions of the prize-giving ceremony for the awards made during the week-long bullfighting Feria of Salamanca, attended by most of the leading lights in the world of bullfighting and by the most renowned breeders.

Now is the time to promote Ciudad Rodrigo and its ties with the fighting bull. Now is the time to close ranks around a fiesta that we love and need to protect and nurture. Now is the time to show that the younger generations are also conscious of our history and that we want to continue forging it by taking little steps such as this one. TOROSTURISMO (BULL TOURISM) is an idea that has sprung up from within the heart of the new modernity informed by new technologies, with the aim being that each user who shows an interest will be provided at first-hand with information on Spain’s foremost tourist offer linked to the fiesta of bullfighting. The aim is for each enthusiast, each aficionado, to have the chance to actually take part and soak up its essence through activities that are not within everyone's reach. We seek to provide a leisure programme that links the fighting bull and tourism through the essence of them both. Our mission, from a Spanish perspective, is to show how the fiesta of bullfighting has developed in the different parts of our country and even beyond our frontiers, in France and Portugal.
We are a project for disseminating the fiesta we love so much, and accordingly we care for each detail by offering free-time and leisure activities that in addition to being instructive and novel for the customer as such constitute unique experiences for the actual person within.
